Is Behror donning the armour, or donning it hastily. The former will take 2 minutes (20 rounds) with Talon's help; the latter will take 30 seconds (5 rounds) with Talon's help but give -1 AC and add a +1 armour check penalty.

Edit: And since Talon can sleep in his armour without penalty, I'm assuming that he was already wearing his chain shirt and doesn't have to spend 1 minute putting it on.

Behror is donning hastily. +4 to AC > +0 to AC.

Exseo can choose to take an action while the flying duo is attacking the one Pandessan soldier and then descending to the ground.

What's the distance of Behror, Siscero and Talon to the winged elves?

I assumed the catch up party was double moving at 40 feet per round, so you are 200 feet away from Exseo, and 240 feet away from the angels.

Of course, a round of good ol' fashioned running will close the gap more quickly.

It isn't yet morning, but you guys probably got enough rest to get your spell back. Because, well, you're going to need them.

Another successful Diplomacy roll. :(

Behror is running, which means he can cover 80 feet per round. Unless Nyoibo or Valrus say otherwise, I'll assume that the casters are matching pace with the meatshield.

Therefore, distance to Exseo is now 120 feet and closing.

Assuming that Behror and company are still running full tilt for Round one, they begin Round two 40 feet away from Exseo. I will do up a map and post it in the battle thread.

I'm just trying to figure out a few attack options, pondering how the rules would work.

Okay, let me expand on the question, since the situation is possibly going to require some rules judgment on your part as well. Jon is somewhat concerned that she's got some magical protection that is going to keep him from damaging her with his weaponry. So, something he was considering was starting a grapple (assuming she's a spellcaster, he thinks he could win) and attempting to drown her in the scrying pool. Basically, I figure it would work that I would (over a couple of rounds) grapple, move her to the pool, and pin her there.

So, three questions: Using the grapple rules, would that be permitted? Would the pool be deep enough to drown her in? How long would it take to drown someone, i.e., is it something that could happen quickly enough to make it a viable combat option?

Siscero usually taps everyone up at night before going to bed, but I don't think Valrus was on the board much when that happened, so I'll allow a retroactive tap up.

For simplicity, let's assume that outside of combat a healing wand restores 7 hit points per charge spent. That makes it easier for me to be lazy. In this case, Siscero spent 9 charges to get Exseo and Behror returned to health.

Kishi - yes, that is permissible by the grapple rules. The drowning rules suck for the person drowning, as it can be pretty frickin' lethal from what I remember.

I looked it up, and, well... The drowning rules, from what I read on the SRD state:

Quote

Any character can hold her breath for a number of rounds equal to twice her Constitution score. After this period of time, the character must make a DC 10 Constitution check every round in order to continue holding her breath. Each round, the DC increases by 1.

When the character finally fails her Constitution check, she begins to drown. In the first round, she falls unconscious (0 hp). In the following round, she drops to –1 hit points and is dying. In the third round, she drowns.

Which means it's going to take, on average, two minutes or more to drown someone, depending on their Con and how they roll on their checks. Which means 20+ grapple checks I'm going to have to win to maintain the pin. So, unless there's some other rules you're aware of, it seems pretty unlikely that the dice are going to keep coming up in my favor that many times in a row.

I just rolled a Knowledge (nature) check for Jon and he recognizes enough to know that he's fighting a Nymph, and that her skin is unnaturally tough like most fey creatures.

As for drowning: yeah, it would take a while.

I don't think the rules really take into account struggling. During the grapple I'd be assuming that you're holding her head underwater, banging it on the pedestal, giving her shots to the ribs, and pinching her nicely shaped bottom. A person is going to burn through the oxygen in their body faster in those circumstances than simply swimming. I'd house rule the length of time to hold breath would be equal to Con, not double. But you're still probably looking at having to hold her under water for a minute, at least.

Regardless, you'd be a fool for passing up a chance to grapple with a nymph. You can do it, Kishi! I believe in you!

Damn Jon for not having the foresight to have weapons to deal with the DR of anything he might come across... :shakefist:

On the other hand, knowing it's a nymph does mean that the other part of his plan might be useful. Action updated.

Question. From the Combat Thread:

Quote

Jon does 0 damage to woman. [0 damage total].

Didn't I do 22 points of damage to her in the first attack? Even with her DR, some of that should have stuck around, I'd think.

I think you're thinking of the Satyr fight, when you rolled the crit. On a regular attack, your damage maxes out at about 19 or something, right?

Yeah, I realized that when I went back and thought about it. I thought I'd done a decent amount to her in that first attack, because I remember being surprised she was still mobile, but, meh, whatever.

The thought occurs to me that at least three-fifths of the party is on vacation at the moment, and Valrus is lost at school or something. Maybe it's like that Summer School movie and Valrus is the guy locked in the bathroom.

Edit to add: She bit me? What is she, seven? Actually, she might be. I'm not clear on how nymphs age.

Also, sorry I'm jumping into your honorable duel, Fugu. But Jon doesn't know otherwise, and that's not how he's been trained.

So with Valrus pulling out, I will run Siscero for the current combat.

I'm reluctant to simply drop the character of Siscero, because that would leave you guys almost entirely without recourse to healing. I've offered the position to someone who had expressed interest in joining the campaign earlier. We'll see how that pans out and go from there.

I...fuck. I thought did the update since the O'Deepster had returned. But I did not. What was I thinking? I'll tell you what I was thinking! Blizzards! Everywhere! Chaos!

..okay, I'll get an update underway. Things will probably remain a little slow on this campaign for the foreseeable future. I'm not sure what Fugu's status is at the moment, but Nyoibo is unable to access the site and I haven't heard back about Valrus' replacement.

Alright ODP, you've created a connundrum! I don't have access to the book with your special ability on the sunder. The celestial has Magic Weapon cast on his sword - does your sunder ability apply the extra damage?

As I read the rules, I only do the extra damage if the elf himself is a magic user (spells or spell-like abilities), or if the swords can cast spells (spell storing and the like).

He has spell-like abilities. But that will only apply the extra damage when you're attacking him, correct?

As I read it, it should be while I'm attacking him or his stuff. As I read it, the ability works like a ranger's extra damage in that you know how to attack your foes better to increase your damage. Buuut, it's your game and the wording is unclear. (from WotC? Shocking! :o )

Valor provokes an AoO from Behror for movement through a threatened space. What is Behror's action?

Lance, is Valor flying too high for Behror to reasonably jump up and hit him? How far aware are the two at present?

Valor is 20' up in the air. Behror'd need...what, a 12' vertical?

Are you asking the distance between Behror and Valor? 15' horizontally, 20' vertically...I think that trigonometry declares the distance 25' as the thrown axe flies.

No, no. He really looks like he wants to come down and kill you. He just needed to stop bleeding first because he's all Stephen Covey goal-oriented and shit.

Besides, he still gets SR against magic missiles. :)

Man, if only someone with some skill at archery had just joined the group and was getting tired of shooting at the bitch who keeps blocking his shots with her damned tower shield.

Also: Lance, your latest update could use some proof-reading.

Sorry Fugu! Exseo is a lot less fragile than the casters (and Behror, for that matter). Behror's hoping to take down Valor in time to keep Exseo from getting killed to death.

You know what Behror is? He's a Big Damned Hero, that's what. For the sheer and utter awesome lunacy of your combat maneuver (successful or not) I award you a Hero Point, to be used in future, equal sense-deprived actions. :)

Dammit, archery apparently sucks. Or not. I'm slightly confused now, after reading the combat thread. Whichever.

Either way- Behror is quite obviously insane. But it will be insanely awesome if it works.

Fugu - with Hold Person you get to make a save every turn, so feel free to post what Exseo would do if/when he breaks free of the enchantment. I should have posted this tidbit sooner.

Much as I'd love to join the Pandessan Air Force, I don't think I have much of a hope of reaching 20' up unless I can run up a boulder or something. Any boulders or uneven ground around? Or if the dude is tackled, I'll run up and stab him in the buttocks.

Talon is currently set to lightning bolt Valor, who is grappled to Behror. The lightning bolt will hit both parties. Does Talon still want to continue? Or zap Serenes instead, since she is free?

Siscero held, because Behror didn't want to kill and he doesn't have anything useful prepped for subdual. Talon has not updated his action. He can jump in, but he's even less non-lethal friendly than Siscero.

It would be very amusing if he used that spell, rolled the random hit chance for ranged attacks vs combatants in a grapple and sapped Behror of 7 points Strength, wouldn't it? Some day in the future we'd all laugh and smoke our pipes and laugh some more and say, "Good ol' Siscero! What a joker he was! Pity about that business with the kyton."

Clarification: Valor was pinned, right, so now he broke the pin but is still grappled? Therefore he and Behror are 10' up in the air? Or was he never pinned and is now free of the grapple? And if so, is Valor 10' away from the nearest Pandessan?

OK. The map still says 10' in the air, thus my confusion. Plus under "Last Rolls" (Combat) it says Valor successfully broke the grapple, but if he was pinned, should that say "broke the pin".

Just want to make sure I understand what I'm reading, before I cast something that may hit Behror & company. :D
