For all your calendars: everything started on Friday, April 7, 2006.

Yes, I know that's the Internet's Birthday, and that it temporally collided with Lance & Jenn's honeymoon. Please forgive this. :P

Immortal 3rd Edition Player's Guide

How to Spend Experience Points
(from Immortal 3rd Edition Player's Guide, starting on page 220)

To increase any of the main attributes (Strength, Agility, Endurance, Perception, Willpower, Presence, Spirit) up to a rating of 6: Spend EXP equal to twice the next rating. So increasing strength from 4 to 5 will cost (5x2) 10 experience points.

Raising Spirit beyond 6: Spend EXP equal to four times the next rating. So increasing spirit from 6 to 7 will cost (7x4) 28 experience points.

Raising the other main attributes beyond 6 is a gigantic pain in the ass that requires a full Ark (the place where you store immaculum to regenerate yourself), plus an additional investment of immaculum equal to twice your Spirit rating. After that, you must spend EXP equal to three times the new rating. For example, increasing Willpower from 7 to 8 will cost (8x3) 24 experience points. Finally, you must conduct a somewhat painful ritual where you spill your life force into your ark and regenerate yourself, gaining the increased attribute at the same time. Your ark is broken in this process and you'll need to attune yourself to a new one and fill it all over again. Because of the great leapin' pain in the neck this is, I recommend waiting until you want to increase a couple attributes into the mythic level and save yourself some time.

To Increase or Obtain Skills (including serenades)
The Base Cost of the skill is how many experience points you need to spend to get the skill at rank 1.
To increase the skill, use the chart on page 223, (reproduced below)
To gain an additional focus for a skill, you must pay the rank 2 cost of the skill. You cannot have a number of foci higher than your rank in the skill. Serenades are slightly different: you may not gain additional foci until you have rank 3 in the serenade.

To Increase or Obtain Natures
A new nature costs 5 experience points to increase if it is common to your Species or Tribe (if you have a tribe other than Solitare). A new nature costs 10 experience points to increase if it is not common to your species or tribe. Some natures (like Hyper) have multiple levels. It costs 5 (or 10 if not common to you) experience points to raise each level.

Experience Point Cost Table for Skills (reproduced from page 223 of the Player's Guide)
Base Cost Rank 2 Rank 3 Rank 4 Rank 5
	2 +3 +5 +8 +13
	3 +4 +7 +11 +18
	4 +6 +10 +16 +26
	5 +8 +13 +21 +34
	6 +10 +16 +26 +42
	7 +12 +19 +31 +50
	8 +14 +22 +36 +58

Sooner or later you're going to get some Immaculum, and you're going to wonder, "hey, what the fuck is this and what the hell do I do with it?"

What the fuck is immaculum?
In the most basic terms, immaculum is soul-stuff. It is created in tiny amounts by mortals, and in tangible quantities by the occasional mortal with a strong spirit. Immortals can acquire it gently from mortals in a mutually awesome experience that takes a bit of time, or strip it quickly and violently away in an experience that leaves the mortal scarred and mentally damaged.
Read up on chapter 9 of the main book to learn how to get your own.

What the hell do I do with immaculum?
Immaculum has a lot of different uses.
First and foremost, it can be used to cleanse yourself of taint. Taint baaad. Immaculum goood.
It can be used to enchant serenades into objects on a semi permanent basis (but you'll need to invest a part of yourself into an object to make it a permanently magical item).
You can boost one of your attribute points by 1 for every immaculum point you spend. You can spend up to 2 immaculum per scene (about a half hour), but the boost is very temporary. The immaculum is burned up after 10 combat rounds.
It can also be used to power calling gifts and changing the area of effect of serenades, extending a serenade's duration, or hiding your connnection to a serenade. (check put page 160)

Since I'm doing my best to keep track of somewhere around 50 character sheets, I've found it very useful to put together an excel sheet that tracks all character data and calculates all of your characters derived attributes, like speed and such. The only thing I'm too lazy to figure out how to do is to get it to figure out what kind of dice you roll. I do that one manually based on your spirit level.

Anyway, I thought that if figuring out your charcter attributes is a pain in the keister for me, it's probably doubly so for most of you guys who aren't constantly reading the books. So, if you'd like the excel file version of your character sheet (and a few mortals, just for comparison), just let me know and I'll cheerfully e-mail you one. Unfortunately, I don't think I can attach it via a PM, so if you want one, please just PM me your e-mail address (I probably have most of yours, but still...).

This is just a stop-gap measure until I figure out how to put together an Immortal character sheet archive online like Xeno's got for the 3eProfiler D&D charater sheets. That's likely a long time coming though.
