Glasgow and Morgan leave. McCale moves to the central seat where Glasgow had been sitting and swivels to face you.

"I hope they get that cleared up quickly. We can't be far behind that cargo ship now, but if we drift too long they'll beat us to Nobodaddy." You don't recognize the last word--it sounds unsettlingly like 'lobotomy'. "Did I not say before? It's the name of the supply depot. Well, on the books it's SD-K2106. But everybody calls the supply depots by the planet they orbit. Or moon. Plutoddy, Malacandraddy... You get the idea. This one's at Nobodad. The 'missing' planet." He makes a mock spooky gesture and grins. "It's a gas giant, you see, but it's colorless. You could fly right through it, theoretically. Used to be kind of a sacred place for the Kurruk. Still is. Actually, I don't know why they let us put a station in orbit there, now that I think of it..."

He babbles on and on.

He-Who-Watches ignores McCale, and pays attention to the prisoners, almost hoping one of them decides to make a move.

The conscious wariti sizes you up warily, then looks away, brooding.

He-Who-Watches tilts his head at the wariti, and then decides to speak.

"For your own edification, you were engaged in friendly terms with people who were ready to perform unspeakable acts on one of my companions, and likely on myself. That makes them enemies, and you someone who are on friendly terms with the enemy. As such, I'd as soon break your neck as look at you. That also works for that one," He-Who-Watches points at McCale, "but luckily for you both, I am civilized. I'd much rather kill neither of you, if it can be avoided. At the same time, I wouldn't blink twice at killing either of you if I had to. And, perhaps more relevant, I could."

McCale breaks off when you begin speaking. After you are finished, his expression is one of encroaching distress. "Wait, what? ...Y- ...I-" The aborted words are crumbling bricks of denial. Awful clarity finds the young man's face.

"You hate me, don't you?"

He-Who-Watches raises an eyebrow at the young man.

"Hate? No. I do not hate you. I do not like you either, however. To you, I am a.. Specimen. Something to be examined, tested, studied. I do not believe you are quite as bad as the others, as Blagorov. But no, I do not trust you, and therefore I do not like you."

McCale listens in pained silence, and remains so for a moment after you finish. He finally breaks eye contact to look at the stars. He takes a deep breath and says softly, "I'm going to the lavatory." He pulls open the door to the port lobe and exits.

Great. I offended him. And at this time he holds an artifact of unknown power, and I already know he's unhinged. I really do better when I stay silent.

He-Who-Watches calls after McCale as he leaves.

"Put yourself in my place, human. You were one of those scientists, until not long ago at all. How am I to know you did not help us just to steal us, like you stole the bowl, for your own purposes? You are not a fool. Were our situations reversed, you would not trust me either, and I wouldn't blame you. Time may change things, but for now.. Understand my position."

McCale stormed out about 2 minutes after Morgan and Glasgow left. Another 2 minutes pass in the cabin, and another of the unconscious wariti stirs and slowly sits up. Silently, he takes in the situation. His conscious companion looks at him soberly. "Gerru shfi nod bagin Rao Zrossa. Likitse za bkelloh," he explains.

Taking in the situation, and cursing at himself silently for not anticipating it, He-Who-Watches moves forwards and kicks the last uncounscious wariti straight in the face. He then turns towards the newly awakened wariti, and speaks.

"I care not what he told you. I will kill you before allowing myself to get caught. On the other hand, cooperate, and you will be released as soon as it is workable."

The two conscious wariti look on in horror, then sit in silence.

After a minute, one of them peers out of the front window. Following his gaze, you see a rather big star that's getting bigger. Soon it grows large enough for you to see through the glare, and distinguish the features of some giant beast approaching. It is bulky, like a whale, but with long tendrils, like squid. The first wariti speaks with controlled fear, "You must free us, savage. You will not survive alone."

All three of you stare at the approaching thing, which grows yet larger and larger. The tendrils do not move... the beast is not a beast. It is a ship. "They will send krauthi," adds the second. "Shadowhounds. Do you know know how to fight a krathmit?" it asks, well aware of the answer.

"You intend to fight off the whole pack? They never send less then ten. They will float right through that window and devour us," says the first wariti.

The behemoth is still approaching, looming even larger; it must be absolutely titanic. At the prow of the approaching ship, a red light appears, and bathes the cabin in a bloody glow.

"They turn on that light when they mean for the krauthi to kill," continues the second, his voice building into an eerie resonance. "It reminds them of home. Makes them hungry. It is the beacon of death for enemies of the Qua 'Bvu. You are on our ship, savage. You are their enemy."

"We are ready for death," the first goes on, his voice chilling. "Will you strike us dead, and destroy our knowledge of your foe? We receive your blows gladly in the knowledge that your own fate is sealed. Or will you leave us bound and helpless, to be devoured alive by the ghostly teeth? So be it. My dying vision will be the krauthi rending your barbaric flesh."

At that moment, the cabin lights come back on, and the ship resumes its hum. A sensor on the console immediately begins beeping anxiously. A tactical map of the surrounding space depicts the prow of the behemoth vessel, as well as a 12 tiny dots en route to the wariti craft. They will arrive within seconds.

He-Who-Watches sighs as he starts to untie the waritis.

"We would have been better off with the other ship. You waritis are obviously honorable people, and despite my threats and bluster, I cannot consider you my enemies. We were in a bad situation, and attempted to correct it as best as we could."

When free, the first wariti (the one you chased down personally, who is slightly fatter than the other wariti you have seen, though all carry a sizeable paunch), immediately opens a cabinet on the back wall. It contains two long, slim rifles and a large, cylindrical canister with an attached hose and a small harness. He speaks quickly while donning the canister. "The krauthi can become incorporeal--like a gas, if you can understand. But they will leave their claws and teeth solid." While the thinner wariti removes the rifles, handing one to you, the fat one continues. "When they bite you, you will start to become like them. Beware, for although we can reverse it later, you are weak while-"

At the very front of the cabin, a jagged, rust-colored snout materializes (although everything appears red in this light). It floats forward a few feet, snarling hungrily, as four sets of claws walk underneath it. Two more ensembles of claws and teeth appear beside the first. Invisible joints tense, the jaws snap, the claws spring, and the beast gallops forward. The fat wariti, catches it in mid-pounce with a blast from the canister. "-while FADING!"

Where the steam hits the beast, its armored hide becomes visible. Broad patches of the shadowhound can be seen as it sails into the console, having misjudged the height, causing its newly solidified form to slam ungracefully into the controls. The thin wariti fires a beam into the krathmit, charring the rusty hide. "Draw them into the guvnaht," he shouts, and uses the newly repowered controls to open the door through which McCale departed, and dart through it himself.

HWW's turn

He-Who-Watches follows the skinny wariti, gun in hand. The two shadowhounds that had appeared to either side of the first now leap forward--one floating rack of teeth cutting off the fat wariti's exit into the guvnaht, and the other attempting to pounce on you. Fortunately, it falls short awkwardly, exposing itself to counterattack.

HWW gets an attack of opportunity on krathmit #3. I'll try to make a combat map tomorrow.

He-Who-Watches clobbers the pouncing shadowhound akilter. The fat wariti sprays the beast advancing on his position, revealing a good half of its ghostly white flesh, then hurriedly pulls the canister out of his harness and holds it high, ready to club the creature. The first krathmit, still half visible from its dose of gas, gains its footing on the console and leaps at He-Who-Watches, claws out, jaws wide, and a single, floating eye filled with bloodlust. With the fluidity of wind, He-Who-Watches ducks under the leap and thrusts his foot upward, connecting with the underside of the creature's partially exposed neck. It slams against the ceiling and falls back down in a crumpled pile of alien body parts. The gaps in the unmoving anatomy begin to fill in.

A human scream comes from somewhere in the port lobe of the ship. The skinny wariti runs in the scream's direction, leaving He-Who-Watches embroiled with one active krathmit, and the fat wariti with another.

HWW's AoO on krathmit C: 13 + 14 = 27. Hit. d10 + 1 = 9.
HWW's AoO on krathmit A: 20 + 14 = 34. Critical threat: 13 + 14 = 27. Confirmed. 8 + 1 = 9. 10 + 1 = 11. Total damage: 20.

Smiling grimly to himself, He-Who-Watches moves gracefully, attempting to achieve a better position. That done, he lets the spirit of battle take him over, and becomes a whirlwind of death.

OOC: Take a 5' step, keeping me close to "my" dude, but moving me closer to the wariti's "dude", if possible within melee range. Then flurry of blow (+13/+13/+13/+8), starting with mine, and moving to "his" when mine drops.

With nothing to strike but snout and claws, He-Who-Watches rains all hell down upon the bridge of the creature's nose. One fist swings wide, but three more connect with a vengeance, leaving the beast's upper jaw skewed and broken.

Growling nastily, the jaws retaliate. They snag the monk's forearm, mangling it badly. The other pair of jaws lunges at the wariti, grabbing hold of its calf and yanking it to the floor. The wariti groans for a second, then falls silent. The invisible body of the creature turns around to face the remaining prey.

From the port lobe, shouting and snarling continues, and from the starboard lobe as well, though only faintly.

HWW attacks #3: 17 + 13 = 30. Hit. 1 + 1 = 2.
HWW attacks #3: 14 + 13 = 27. Hit. 7 + 1 = 8.
HWW attacks #3: 1 + 13 = 14. Miss.
HWW attacks #3: 17 + 8 = 25. Hit. 2 + 1 = 3.

HWW takes 9 hp of damage from the bite.

Faintly, in the elf's mind, a thought reverberates. Great, now I have two on me.

Otherwise, he remains in the grips of his battle fury, raining blows freely.

OOC:
Again, Flurry of Blow. I'll attack the one that killed (maybe?) the wariti first, until I connect -once-, that one being a stunning blow as well. The rest of my attacks go on the same I've been attacking.

In mid-swing, the monk's bitten right forearm disappears, and his blow goes right through the grinning maw. Though shocked, he recovers quickly, and bludgeons the beast with his left while considering what has happened to his right. The arm is still there, the pain of the bite tells him, though it cannot be felt by any other part of his body. The elbow and upper arm are slowly beginning to fade as well.

Instinctively, He-Who-Watches slams the missing fist into the invisible torso of the other krathmit, and is rewarded by the feel of a rocky hide caving in to the force of his punch. The shadowhound stumbles to the side from the blow as its packmate lunges. The monk evades with ease, but underestimates the vengeance of the weakened beast, who tackles the ancient warrior and goes for the throat. With the help of his faded arm, He-Who-Watches tosses the beast aside, but not before it draws blood from perilously close to his jugular. He watches his own flesh vanish as it hangs from the shadowhound's teeth, then realizes that the blood flowing freely from his neck is disappearing as well.

Stunning fist on #2: 1 + 13 = 14. Miss.
Stunning fist on #2: 15 + 13 = 28. Hit. 6 + 1 = 7. The creature is not stunned.
Normal attack on #3: 2 + 13 = 15. Hit. 1 + 1 = 2.
Normal attack on #3: 15 + 8 = 23. Hit. 3 + 1 = 4.

HWW loses 18 hp from the bite.

HWW's remaining hit points are now split into two groups. 38 hp are solid, as usual, but 8 hp are incorporeal. You can feel them in your brain, but if a solid part tries to touch a vanished part, the solid part passes right through the space that should be occupied. Thanks to your second bite, you are currently becoming incorporeal at a rate of 2 HD (16 hp) per round.

Your turn again.

I am fading, as the wariti warned. This will not do.

Deciding that this is one of these times during which discretion is the better part of valor, He-Who-Watches disengages from combat, easily evading any attempt from the creatures to take advantage of his retreat. He then moves quickly towards the 'guvnaht', whatever that may be.

OOC:
Craaap. Tumbling to avoid AOOs (I succeed even on a 1, so..) I use as much movement as needed to catch up with the wariti that left earlier.

He-Who-Watches withdraws into the immense, parlorlike room. The wariti is sprinting around elegant furniture toward the far door that leads to the kitchen, some 200 feet away from the cabin door. McCale bursts out of what He-Who-Watches remembers to be the door to the kitchen, and presumably, a lavatory. His right leg is bleeding invisible blood. "Shadowhounds! He-Who-Watches! There are shadowhounds on the ship!" he shouts. He then notices the armed wariti running his way, and leaps to the side, landing underneath an oddly tilted couch.

Two sets of bodiless jaws bolt through the door after McCale and make to pursue him to the couch, but then stop, sniffing. Both turn toward you and the wariti, who has stopped to aim his rifle. With his own rifle hanging by a strap around his still solid shoulder, He-Who-Watches dashes forward, easily catching up the wariti.

The hounds are 150' aft of your current position. You have one move action or standard action left in this round.

Nodding silently to the wariti, He-Who-Watches shoulders the rifle, and aims for one of the beasts, picking the one the wariti isn't aiming for, and presses the trigger.

This rifle is long, slim, and colored a marbled white and forest green. It has two barrels. The lower one is empty, and out of the upper protrudes a very sharp metal tip about an inch long. There is a trigger like the human guns, and a white button on the side near the thumbrest.

"Use the button," whispers the wariti as he aims for the lefthand beast. He-Who-Watches aims for the right and fires. A ray of white light bursts from the lower barrel and sears the jawline of the monster. It howls demonically. Both charge forward as the wariti fires. His ray strikes right on the charging nose, turning most of the snout into ash. The krathmit wails horribly. Both animals disappear.

"We need the anchor gas!" the wariti hisses anxiously. Its shuffles back toward the cockpit and darts its beady eyes up, down, left, and right. He-Who-Watches contemplates the situation as his neck and trigger hand disappear. The gun droops as its full weight shifts to his one solid hand. A high moan comes from beneath McCale's couch.

HWW attacks #4: 16 + 12 = 28. Hit. 1d20 = 13.

Your HP are now 22 incorporeal, 37 solid. Your turn. The gas canister is 70 feet away.

As he starts towards the canister, He-Who-Watches calmly asks.. "And what to do with the canister, friend?"

OOC
My actions sorta depends on his answer.. I can make it to the canister with a move action.. Then I'll do whatever he says. If any of the monsters are in the way, I'll tumble around them to avoid AOOs (auto-success)

"Spray yourself quickly, before you fade completely! But have care--" he shouts after the monk, unable to keep up, "The krauthi need not show themselves to rend a faded limb!"

A tattooed face, with long brown hair whipping back over pointed ears, flies like a ballista down the length of the room. No body connects it to the furiously pumping legs below, no shoulder adjoins to the trailing left arm. The elf winces in pain, as somewhere, elsewhere, a new gash is torn into his missing chest. He vaults into the cockpit, tumbling face over heels to the upper half of the fallen wariti--its legs and paunch have disappeared. He-Who-Watches speedily relieves the alien of the canister harness, while McCale screams in agony back in the guvnaht. He aims the hose at himself with his one hand, and sprays.

His breath comes up short as the pain of his wounds slides from elsewhere back to immediacy. Once every limb and sinew is back and bleeding on this plane of existence, he ceases spraying and looks at the canister. A small strip of light on the side is two-thirds orange and one-third white.

Two rounds have gone by since you spoke to the wariti. Your action. All 53 of your HP are now solid. You also still have 6 NL, by my count.

He-Who-Watches mirthlessly allows himself a small smile as his body becomes solid once more.

Where are the beasts...

Not able to do anything about the missing monsters for the time being, he makes his way to McCale as quickly as he can, and then sprays the scientist.

OOC:
The wariti who spoke to me appeared completely solid, right? If that's wrong, HWW will go back to him and spray him before McCale.

He-Who-Watches returns to the guvnaht. The wariti has moved toward McCale's couch, but a floating pair of jaws blocks his path. The wariti's rifle pops loudly, and a foot-long harpoon fires from the upper barrel and retracts in an instant, leaving a pleasantly large hole in the snout. No blood comes--it appears that these beasts do not bleed. The wariti barely dodges a lunge from the wounded maw.

Meanwhile, McCale desperately clambers out from under the sofa, his right leg and both hips missing. Unlike the wariti and the elf, his clothing does not fade--the lab coat and trousers drag pitifully behind him. He climbs to a one-legged stand and attempts to run towards the monk, terror in his face, using furniture for support.

He-Who-Watches barrels down the room, vaulting over furniture. McCale cries out in fresh pain and stumbles. The wariti strikes again with his harpoon, but the jaws retaliate successfully. Black fluid begins to drip from the wariti's mangled wrist, turning invisible before it hits the floor. He-Who-Watches reaches McCale and sprays. The scientist's torn and bloody leg reappears, albeit outside the trouser leg. A pair of jaws announces its own manifestation behind the scientist with a snap and a growl. McCale limps hurriedly behind He-Who-Watches, then gasps and limps back in the other direction. "Behind you! I'll take the gun!"

Indeed, another mouth has appeared, flanking the elf.

For Corellon's sake... This is starting to get annoying. And annoyance is bad for the soul.

Dropping the gas-rifle near McCale, He-Who-Watches spins in place, bringing his foot up towards the solid jaw, following with a series of punches.

OOC: McCale meant the weapon, which you were still holding. I assume you dropped both.

The pale jaws retaliate for the savage beating, but not quickly enough. The monk leaps up and over the lunge for a strike from above. He hangs impossibly in mid-air as McCale scoops up the rifle. The other hound dives in and rips the flesh from McCale's arm, and the scientists yells in pain. He fires the gun's harpoon into the snagtoothed maw, then crumples to the ground as the horizontal He-Who-Watches kicks once and misses, kicks twice and connects, kicks a third time and hooks a nostril, yanking the jaws upward, before crashing down with a punishing spike from his heel.

He-Who-Watches lands on his back and quickly rolls to his feet. The krathmit he struck does not get up, and the rest of its bony body fades into view. Over McCale's unmoving body, a long black tongue licks up blood, then retreats into the floating mouth and disappears. The shadowhound springs at the monk, nearly swallowing his hand whole, but He-Who-Watches pulls back just in time and merely loses a chunk of his wrist. 50 feet away, the wariti continues to exchange wounds with his own krathmit.

OOC
Went ahead and assumed an additional flurry. We can back up if you like.
1: 2 + 13 = 15. Hit. 2 + 1 = 3.
2: 11 +13 = 24. Hit. 1 + 1 = 2.
3: 13 +13 = 26. Hit. 6 + 1 = 7.
4: 2 + 8 = 10. Miss.
Then you dodge the hound's attack, and go at it again. During that time, McCale falls.
5: 1 + 13 = 14. Miss.
6: 3 + 13 = 16. Hit. 9 + 1 = 10.
7: 20 + 13 = 33. Critical Threat. 9 + 13 = 22. Confirmed. 1 + 1 = 2 x 2 = 4.
8: 18 + 8 = 26. Hit. 7 + 1 = 8.

You lose 7 HP from the bite. Two shadowhounds are visible--yours and the wariti's.

A small part of He-Who-Watches takes satisfaction at seeing one of the creature dispatched. Another takes a small amount of pity at seeing McCale's unmoving body. The vast majority remains in the battle at hand, and all of it fully ignores, for the moment, the small part of his body that is missing. It is noted, and taken into account in his movement, but at this time, it does not worry the elf, as he attacks the creature attacking him.

OOC
Getting repetitive.. But I believe it's what is most effective, flurry of blows on the shadowhound that's on me. I hope it's one of those I was fighting earlier, and already hurt some.. Can I tell?

He-Who-Watches leaves his own marks in the already scarred and torn flesh of the creature. The final blow sends the jaws careening into a delicate, ivory-like table, which tumbles and shatters. The shadowhound's body fades into view amidst the debris. He-Who-Watches turns to face the only remaining beast, still engaged with the wariti. A fresh pain stabs his fading forearm.

He-Who-Watches nods to himself once, satisfied. Briefly, the idea of picking either guns run through his mind. He could shoot, or he could return his body to material..

There's but one left. And those waritis are honorable, and he needs my help.

And so he moves into position, and attacks the remaining monster.

OOC
Moving into flanking position... Assuming it's more than 5' move, I get 1 attack at +15, d10+1 damage. If I can do it in 5', Flurry for +15/+15/+15/+10.

The jaws spin round in surprise. The wariti attempts to capitalize on the distraction but misses. The jaws attack He-Who-Watches, but miss. He-Who-Watches, however, misses none of four lightning blows to the krathmit. After narrowly dodging the wariti's harpoon, the jaws fade from view.

"They will attack from their world," hisses the wariti. "The gas, quick!" He begins to run towards the gas canister, near McCale's fallen form.

Without a word and with a barely perceptible nod, the elf follows the wariti, picking up the rifle and standing ready.

The wariti gasps in pain halfway to the canister and falls. He-Who-Watches reaches the canister, but not before suffering another bite from elsewhere. He sprays his missing arm. It stings as before, and reappears. McCale and the wariti lie fading to either side of him.

McCale chokes up a puddle of disappearing blood and mutters something, eyes shut with pain. He openes his watery eyes and stares at He-Who-Watches, chuckling at some unseen irony, and speaks with slight humor, "Ah, little cloud. Why do you not complain when in one hour you fade away? Then we shall seek, but not find. Heh. McCale is like to thee." The scientist breathes in sharply and closes his eyes. "But McCale delights in thee no more, because I fade away; and all shall say, 'Without a use this man lived, or did he only live to be at death the food of worms?'"

Well this is great.

Unsure as to whom may be beyond help, and whom might be closer to death anyway, He-Who-Watches allows his prejudices to decide on his actions, and he sprays the fading wariti with the gas gun.

The wariti fully manifests. It is breathing regularly. Silence returns to the ship. You can hear gunfire faintly, from somewhere on the other side of the vessel.

Satisfied that the wariti will live for the next few seconds, He-Who-Watches thinks of what to do next.

Well. Even if dead, it is but proper that his body be fully on this plane.

While spraying McCale, He-Who-Watches takes inventory of his own injuries.

You have 46 hp left. I thought at first that you also had 6 non-lethal, but I think that's from a few hours ago and is healed by now. So, 46 hp, 0 non-lethal.

OOC
Alright, here's what I wanna do, in order.
1-Use wholeness of body to heal myself of 20 HPs.
2-Determine if McCale is still alive. I don't have heal, so check is at +1
3-If McCale is dead, pick up the wariti and start towards the sounds of the rifle. If he's alive, try to drag both of them in that direction.

He-Who-Watches channels the stillness of the room into his own body. Blood empties from his lungs and his wounds close. He examines McCale, almost unsure of what he'd rather find: there is no pulse or breath. The scientist is dead.

The wariti is easily carried back through the cabin. The third captive, who never came back to consciousness after the departure from Jalah, slumbers on. The fat wariti, who fell to the krauthi, is gone.

The gunfire continues, louder now. It must be coming from the engine room.

Heal 8 + 1 = 9. Success.
Listen 12 + 4 = 16. Success.

He-Who-Watches looks at the other live Wariti.

*sigh* I cannot leave him here, defenseless..

Slipping the strap of the gas rifle over his shoulder, he grabs him by the collar while carrying the other wariti, and starts to drag him in the direction of the engine room, moving as quickly as he can.

He-Who-Watches strains to move the two aliens. Although each one weighs no more than a somewhat waifish elf, together they are barely within his strength to move. The elf is forced to carry them one at a time. In less than a minute, all three beings are in the elevator, going down.

The compact sphere opens again, and the sounds of combat become immediate. A wariti voice is chanting something chilling amid laser fire and the snarls of krauthi, but He-Who-Watches sees nothing. Presumably, the fight is hidden by the immense liquid standing stones that fill the room.

OOC
Two wariti at once exceeded your maximum load, limiting you to 5 feet of movement per round--much faster to carry them one at a time. Don't read the other thread just yet. Keep posting here.

Well, well, well. This should be fun.

"Glasgow? Morgan? Would you like some help with the fading beasts, or would you rather I not intervene? You are not fighting our host, I hope?"

As he calls out to his companions, He-Who-Watches advances slowly, looking for them or the monsters. He brings the gas rifle with him, but leaves the waritis behind.
