I've also had an issue that I can't get on WOW or blizzard so I'm paying but not playing. Gonna be using old fashioned telephone to cancel subscription tomorrow.

.... I'm sorry, what? You lost me at faction switch. :)
Horde is for little boys going through puberty who are lashing out at their parents by either being hardcore raiders or PVPing lowbies just trying to level or farm mats.
Are you saying that you like little boys, Jade?

Meh. Alliance is for 12 year olds who think they're cool.
*cue faction-whining ad nauseum*
Besides, even if I DID want to faction swap, I can't afford it. So it's not even a possibility at the moment.

The PVE servers are like 3:1 alliance:horde because the adults who just want to play and have fun after a hard day of working play on them.
Me, I like raiding and PVPing, but I like PVPing in BG's and Wintergrasp, not so much while I'm out doing dailies or farming.
I like Alliance because I hate the Horde races and zones and early-level quests/stories. I especially hate the Undead and Undercity. Faction switching at level 80 probably wouldn't be bad because once you get into BC and WotLK the stories are all the same.

I dislike most WoW PvP. So when I went back, I re-rolled (and eventually pulled my ally hunter) to Moon Guard as horde. I'm significantly happier there -- I can PvP whenever the hell I damn well please; BG's are cross-realm so it doesn't matter one bit which server has what balance; and I don't have to hang around with dwarves and gnomes.

This.
I'm a huge geek, as you already know -- when I played last year I was one of those jerks with too much time on their hands that hung around in the CS forum, pointing the panicked kiddies screaming "AMG I GOT HAXD BLIZZ FIX THIS OR I QIT". It was exciting.
It's really not at all hard to fix this problem, tho. Go to the Blizz forums, go to the Customer Service one, and right at the top there's a big ol' sticky that covers what to do when this happens. Some of it goes over computer security / figuring out HOW it happened, because someone got your information somehow; and some of it just gives directions on how to get ahold of them and what you need.
My simple recommendations have always been:
- Set up a brand new e-mail account. Don't use it for anything but your WoW account.
- Call Blizzard up; tell 'em what happened. Be prepared to give them information that can prove your account is yours - things like your name, maybe the answer to your secret question. If it -really- comes down to it, you may need to provide your CD keys, but that's a worst-case scenario, so it's usually not needed.
- Have them re-assign your account to your NEW e-mail address. If you can manage it, arrange ahead of time for all incoming mail to that address to forward to an account you use often. This means you are never directly accessing this e-mail, greatly limiting the chance that anyone can nab either the address or password from you.
At this point there's usually a waiting period for Account Administration to recover anything that was lost on your account. 99.999% of the time, they WILL get everything. There are very rare cases when this doesn't happen. It may take longer to fix if your characters have been transferred to another server.
A lot of people roll their eyes at the 'securing your computer' step, and a lot of those people turn right back up in a few months bitching that it happened again. The thing is, brute-forcing your account is way harder than it's worth; in order to get your account information, something somewhere along the way wasn't secure. You used an insecure computer to access your e-mail; maybe you shared account info with a friend; maybe you got some nasty malware on your computer somehow. You gotta find out if there's anything at all on your computer that allowed this to happen, and you gotta get rid of it.
tl;dr: Go to forums. Follow directions. Clean computer. Shouldn't take more than a week or two total, depending on how backed up they are atm. (Summer is worse, so it's probably not bad.)

There is rumor that Blizzard may make the Authenticator mandatory come Cataclysm and include one with each copy.

The only real -problem- with them is that they're not always easy to get. Questionable people will buy a dozen of 'em whenever they can catch them available, and re-sell them on eBay for 20$. Desperate people will buy them. It blows. I can only hope that that's fixed by now.
A mandatory one would really help fix the hacking issues. I'm quite sure there'll still be -something- that someone will exploit, but that's a damn sight further than anyone else has gone to protect their player's accounts.

I understand as much as anyone that gear =/= skill. Frankly, any shadowpriest should, as until recently we had to bust ass to come close to equalling other casters. So I've worked damn hard to put out as much deeps as possible, and right now I'm technically sub-par on gear.
So out of the entire ICC25 I was in last week with my guild, I've probably got the lowest gearscore there. But I'm pretty happy with my DPS. But then the unthinkable happened... they pug'd in another shadowpriest to fill a ranged spot.
This almost NEVER ends well for me. I either wind up getting my ass kicked on the meters, or they wind up getting a piece of gear I want. So I'm grinding my teeth the entire time it takes us to get started. This guy's gearscore is at least 400, 450 points higher than mine.
This guy AoE'd. Everything. Including:
- single pulls.
- two-pulls.
- the giant skeletons that you're not supposed to AoE because they explode when they die, so if they all die at once the tank goes splort.
I felt a lot better when the raid was over and I consistently beat his boss-fight DPS by 1k on average.
So remember, boys and girls, that just because they make a class better, doesn't mean it makes -you- better along with it. XD

I don't remember exactly what she said -- what I do remember is that it was my first time in there, I'd been away for nine months, I was horribly undergeared and trying really hard not to fuck up. And suddenly she flashes raid warnings:
GO AHEAD KEEP AOE'ING
And said something about getting people killed so I stopped doing it. XD And ever since then if I'm not familiar with where I am, or if these skeletons or those skeletons are safe to AoE, I just check and see if our mage is Blizzard'ing.
