Especially when I have a range of almost 700' with some of my spells. :D

I actually didn't realise how far I can shoot a fireball, I'll have to remember that the next time we're being followed.

Fortunately, with Jon's modifier to Hide, it is particularly unlikely that you will see him cry over such insults.

Besides, he's not a freak. He's a patriot, dammit! :usaflag:

Just, uh, pretend that's a Pandessa flag, or something.

Behror, Exseo, don't let our attempts at avoiding notice distract you from your conversation or anything. :P

You're attempting to avoid notice? I thought this was a tactical maneuver to get more efficient access to our enemies.

Yeah, see, in the scouts, they teach you that it's a lot funnier to kill someone if they don't see you before you shoot.

They are definitely within 700 feet if that is what you are asking.

Behror and Exseo should dive clear of the explosion in slow motion, shouting "Noooooooooooo!"

No, they need to set themselves to face the enemy, see the fireball fly past them, make eye contact for a moment, and then turn and start running away. Then they do the dive/leap/"Noooo!" thing.

Sorry about the delay. I've been musing over the fireball spell against a fast moving opponent. I'm not entirely sure I like the ruling as I read it. Fireball basically detonates where the caster wants. If the caster must strike through a small opening, he makes a touch attack against the target to squeeze the fireball bead through.

I'm going to rule that there isn't anything significant in the ~700 feet range to obstruct Talon's casting, for simplicity. The war pigs are moving at 200 feet per round. Really, Talon has to time it so that the burst goes off just in front of the war pigs for maximum effect. I don't feel that an auto-hit is necessarily fair, considering a 40 foot diameter burst. But I don't want to hose Talon, so I'm not going to make it a hit-or-miss thing, either.

I think a flat bonus to the reflex saves is the way to go. Or maybe treat the pigs as if they have evasion? I'm open to feedback.

If it was an arrow, he'd only have to hit the pigs' AC. There'd be no penalty for hitting a moving target--maybe an ad hoc penalty if they were moving laterally, but certainly not with the target moving directly toward him.

Okay, two suggestions.

One, make a general attack roll, BAB + Int mod to "spot" it where he wants to, bonus to the Reflex saves of one or two of them if he misses.

Second, and this one made me search for my fireball template to see if I was right... And I couldn't find them, so I'm still not entirely sure. If he aimed the fireball to hit one of the lead riders, it should encompass all three of them, I think? Going off the measurements Lance gave us. In theory. If I counted right. So, basically, have Talon make a touch attack to aim the fireball to hit one of the riders.

Just a couple of thoughts.

I'd say, given their speed a bonus to reflex would work, it would represent that they're moving away from the blast if they make it, and so don't take the brunt of the explosion.

A halfway decent archer could hit them on the run, I look at it that talons been using his spells all his life so he knows how to compensate for movement just like an archer, but once the spell goes boom there's no more compensating, it happens where it happens.

Sorry guys. Some stuff has come up recently. Updates might be a little sporadic.

For the current scenario, the two foremost riders are now within a double move of Behror and Exseo. The third rider, being a little further back, will not quite reach with a double move. Exseo and Behror are about 60 feet from the gulley, Talon is around 10 feet closer. I'll throw some initiatives up in the combat thread.

Nyoibo, could you throw some Spell DCs into the combat thread, along with your warmage edge bonus, and just leave those figures in the thread permanently? I haven't included the edge in the current fireball calucation, because it wasn't listed. But the edge applies to all damage spells, yes?

Warmage edge from memory doesn't affect area effect spells like fireball, it's on things like magic missile and ray of frost, stuff like that, I think it has to be an individual target attack, I'll check, but all my stuffs on the PC with the dead power supply.

Warmage edge (page 13 and 14 of Complete Arcane) does indeed affect area of effect spells such as Fireball and the like. Your warmage edge only inflicts damage once per casting. So a spell that produces multiple missiles will only inflict the Warmage edge on one of the targets, while a burst spell will inflict the damage to each creature caught in the burst area.

On an opposed sunder check, would the target of the sunder attempt be at a disadvantage if he is charging?
I'm wondering because a charging person suffers a -2 to AC. Would they suffer a similar disadvantage to defend against an attack against their (very committed) weapon?

Well in that case there's 5 more damage to each of them.

Damn, I've been ripping my self off on the damage of fireballs.

I'll add the damage on, and put up a permamnent edge bit in my combat post.

Also, anyone who's got a racial prejudice vs orcs should remember to add that +1 to hit against the boar riders in this combat. I almost forgot, until I remade my character sheet.

Jon just hates all monsters equally, and thus receives no benefit for his disdain.

Do any of the riders split off to follow Exseo? Do they charge straight ahead, ignoring his departure?

I'm just making it official that Pandessa is going on hiatus. Between work and study and preparing for our trip, I find myself short on the time and creative energy necessary to run a game. Pandessa will be on hold until the beginning of June and I will try to pick things up from there.
