So, it's come to my attention that not everybody prepares hard boiled eggs the same way. I've been using a method for years that churns out fantastic hard boiled eggs. The yolks turn out a beautiful golden yellow every time and the egg is firm.

Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the eggs. Cook 10-12 minutes. Drain and refill with cold water to let eggs cool.

People boil eggs in other ways than that? I do it the way you describe and didn't realize I had other options.

I do know that if you leave eggs boiling on the stove then leave the house for 4 hours that you will have egg pieces on the ceiling and across the room against the french doors. Marriage has these cool perks.

You can rest easy knowing that you use the perfect hard boil method, as demonstrated in numerous John Woo films.

I'm going to try LGM's method for making hard boiled eggs/redecorating the kitchen.

AND on the dog - you can't forget that.

Also, eggs do not do well in a pressure cooker. nope.

You mean you aren't supposed to boil them until they explode out of the pan? :doh[1]:

Actually, even just poaching eggs in the microwave is dangerous. The few times I tried it, mine just exploded inside the microwave. It was a minor inconvenience to clean the cooked eggs bits off. I read later that sometimes the egg would explode after being removed from the microwave, sometimes resulting in serious burns.

Regardless, it's just a whole lot easier to poach eggs on the stove.

I found that the easiest way to poach an egg is to crack it into some plastic wrap, make like a little bag for it, and toss that into the water.

Are you putting it in boiling water or just hot water? The plastic doesn't melt into the egg when you do that?

No, you put it into boiling water, and at least I've found that it doesn't melt.

we make campfire omelets like that - we take an egg or two, put it in a plastic bag, add ham, cheese, and what not, seal the bag, smoosh it all together, put it in boiling water for 10-12 minutes. best omelet you will ever eat.

Omelets work out good in the microwave. Use mayo in lieu of milk.

Somehow I seem to always forget that putting the eggs in the boiling water requires some finesse. I usually end up cracking at least 1 egg and have egg drop soup instead of hard boiled eggs.
