Nobel Obama

I like the guy as much as the next. He's done a good job of not fucking around with Canada, which is all I care about in a president. He's a galvanizing force and making steps in a positive direction, for sure, but a Nobel Peace Prize? For serious? He hasn't actually DONE anything yet. I feel that this belittles the efforts of other, more exemplary humanitarians. Or maybe it was just a thin crop of samaritans this year.

Whuh? Is this serious? (Link plz?) I mean... not that I think the guy's the Antichrist or anything. But I *do* think the hype around this dude is utterly ridiculous. It's like a cult or something. Can't those guys at least wait until he FINISHES his goddamn term(s) (thus providing something that can actually be judged as an accomplishment) before nominating him for a Nobel?

Well yeah, but he's near the beginning of his potential eight-year reign. Now he's free to fuck up as much as he wants, under the "I'm a Nobel Peace Prize winner, beeyotch" defense. I mean, regardless of what he does, how bad can he be, right? He won the freakin' Nobel Peace Prize!
Meh. In a sense, the Nobel may have a similar problem to the Oscars - there is always a prize each year (per category), and only one. So, if there isn't any really great movie in a given year, a so-so one will get the Oscar, and if there's a slew of great movies, ones that should deserve it won't get it. I guess it's less bad with the Nobels, since they're less tied to specific time periods (i.e. people often win for long-term achievements), but still.

I doubt that Obama will be re elected. Whether he deserves it or not is irrelevent. What is relevent is that he got a nobel peace prize. I say "Congrats dude!"
Then I follow that up with this: "Let the halls of Congress flow red with blood! Let the White House be tarnished with the shame of our government! Let the high judges hang for their lack of backbone! Friends of Pimptania: The greatest lie ever told is that the people have no power. The greatest travesty is that this is believed. VIVA LA REVOLUCION!"

While I admire desire to change the world, Hans, I remind that Anarchy only works well on paper. In application, it's just not possible in a large population of humans. Unless you have Aloha....and the mainland is seriously lacking in that....but the Prez was born on Hawaii, so I have hopes that he has the Aloha Spirit.

Wychi, your reminder really isn't necessary.
Anarchy doesn't work. Not even on paper. Why? Because like everything else, it's not meant to. Even in an anarchist state, structure will be born. Structure paves the way for routine, paving the way for order. Order give life to law, paving the way for government. But like anarchy, government doesn't work, because it's not meant to. Monarchies, the royal and noble classes, fascist, communist, totalatiarianistic and eventually even democracies all fall victim to anarchy.
In a highly governmental state, anarchy will be born. It's already happening: Free thinkers, radical points of view, terrorism etc. Anarchy gives birth to chaos, paving the way for a new routine. The new routine paves the way for de-structurization. And from this point, structure is born again.
Why? Because it's meant to happen.

There is a whole cycle of how this goes that was theorized by Plato. I don't remember how it goes, but it involves governments devolving into anarchy, which leads to tyranny, which leads to other forms of government and so on. I think it's in The Republic, gotta look it up.
