Bet you've all heard that Hawaii is about to get wetter...considering I live about 400 feet from the beach....my neighbor drug my ass outta bed at 430 am and we headed for high ground. Am at Siv's folk's place chillin and pissed at Mother Nature. I sooooooo wanted to sleep in....haven't slept well in a couple of weeks due to stress. Had several g&t's last night to ensure I would sleep.

Anyway....I'm safe and will let you know how it goes...

550 feet up. If the wave is bad enough to get up here, then I'm afraid the mainland is in big trouble, too.

Oh geez, talked about anti-climactic!

I listened to sirens go off every hour after being awakened at a ghastly hour to be awake....people who care calling and texting to make sure I'm safe (my father nearly freaking out in his usual Christopher Walken voice)...barely got any sleep....watched the news waiting to at least see some carnage. DENIED. Hiked four miles to the high cliffs to get a good view of any tsunami action. Nada. So all clear, the owner of Dude Dogs has it in his head we are going to feed the masses of tourists. All employees were called off, so I am stuck working on my day off.

I just wanted to sleep in today! Then have a nice, quiet day lazing on the beach after a hugely stressful couple of weeks.

Mother Nature broke SEVERAL Adventure Girl Rules.

This is what you get for planning to sleep in. While I can't say I've had a tsunami warning, every time I plan a day of doing nothing and sleeping in, something disrupts my plans.

Ya know, as stressed as I've been over the last few weeks with work and school, I was oddly calm and collected about this whole thing. I was never in a panic. Knew how to get to safety and took THE most important things I could fit in the car(putting out of my mind the many things I have that are of heirloom value that are irreplaceable...like grandpa's arrow heads and my papoose board). I got us safely out of the "danger" zone...which to be honest, my place is about 100ft shy of that zone. So, I knew that likely I could get flooding, but the tourist rentals would buffer a lot of the damage. I got us out before the first siren went off and avoided the nasty traffic of panicking tourists. I emailed my English 135 prof to let him know that I may not show up for the first day of class tomorrow....he replied right away that he understood, as he had family in New Orleans. He knew what could potentially happen with Mother Nature. The sirens went off every hour until about 9am. Then every half hour. Everyone was battening down the hatches. I was never really in danger. I watched the news, getting irritated that they wouldn't guess a tsunami in Hawaii would be late for the party. Shit, everything's on Hawaiian time. But I never felt that state of panic one would think with the potential of such a thing...ya just never know which way it's gonna go. Can be minor, like today, but also can be Samoa.

What's really touching is that EVERYONE I knew closely, all over the world, was emailing, texting, calling to make sure I was ok. I guess Penis Boy even knocked on my door to make sure I was safe, by then I'd been gone hours. Hell, the first text I got from sarabeth I got before my neighbor woke me up and went "HUH? Crazy, whiskey wench!" what she'd texted me was "RUN!"

So then I hadda go work at Dude Dogs for like 3hrs...Big Dog wanted me staying longer, but it was ridiculous. I sold two hot dogs. Well, three, but that's because Cyclops stopped by for a hot dog and to see if he needed to bury any bodies for me.

Right now I'm watching King Arthur and having a couple cold beers and unwinding...what a weird and exhausting day, but its ending well!
